Are the sessions safe and supervised?Yes. All sessions are led by DBS-checked tutors who are trained in safeguarding. Our Lead Safeguarding Officer and Deputy oversee all delivery, and our policies are available on our site.
-
Are parents/carers expected to be present? No, but learners under 18 must be signed up by a parent or carer. Parents are welcome to support or observe if they wish.
-
Where do the sessions take place?Sessions are delivered online via Zoom and accessed from home or anywhere in the UK.
-
Does my child need any prior experience? No experience is needed. The sessions are beginner-friendly and guided step-by-step by experienced educators.
-
What if my child already makes music? They’re still very welcome! While the main sessions are beginner-friendly, learners with some experience can benefit from structure, feedback, and strengthening their foundations. If they’re already more advanced, we may be able to place them in a more suitable cohort or recommend one-to-one sessions tailored to their level and interests.
-
What if a session is missed? We provide catch-up materials and guidance so learners can stay on track, even if they can’t attend live every week.
-
Are one-to-one sessions available?Yes, we offer bespoke one-to-one online sessions for learners who want tailored support in specific areas such as beat-making, songwriting, sound design, or working toward music qualifications.
-
What happens after the 10-week programme? We offer follow-on programmes for those who want to continue learning. These include intermediate and advanced sessions as well as one-to-one support.
-
Can learners work toward a qualification? We are developing structured pathways that link to the Education & Bass Graded Syllabus (endorsed by RSL), which can support learners working toward future accreditation. Will be sending out info on this soon.
-
Who is Music Technology Club for?The club is open to learners aged 11–16 across the UK. It’s ideal for beginners who are curious about music, creativity, or technology—whether they want to be a producer, singer, DJ, rapper, instrumentalist, or just explore a new skill.
-
What is music technology?Music technology is the use of digital tools to create, record, and produce music. It’s used across the music industry as well as in film, games, advertising, and content creation. Learners will develop real-world skills that go beyond traditional music education.
-
What styles of music do you cover? We welcome all styles—from hip hop, pop, electronic and acoustic to experimental. Learners can create the kind of music that inspires them.
-
What do we need at home to take part?Just a laptop or desktop computer, a pair of headphones, a stable internet connection, and a free Zoom account. We use free browser-based software, so there’s nothing to install or purchase.
-
Do learners need a MIDI keyboard or microphone? No specialist equipment is required. All music-making can be done using the computer and browser-based tools. However, if the learner is using a desktop without a built-in microphone, we recommend using a simple USB mic or headset for basic communication on Zoom. Optional gear like MIDI keyboards or mics can be added later if the learner wishes to expand their setup.
